Resize PDF pages to any paper size
Change PDF page size to A4, Letter, Legal or A3 with content scaled to fit and centred. Handles mixed-size documents, entirely in your browser.

Your PDF never leaves this tab — here is how to check
This page has no upload step and no server behind it. Two ways to confirm that yourself, neither of which requires trusting us:
- Turn off Wi-Fi or put the device in aeroplane mode after this page has loaded, then run the tool. It still works.
- Open your browser’s developer tools, switch to the Network tab, clear it, and process a file. No request appears.
The reason this matters: in 2025 the PDF service pdf.net was found exposing roughly 3.5 million user-uploaded documents, and formatter sites JSONFormatter.org and CodeBeautify leaked over 80,000 saved snippets containing live cloud credentials. Those are architectural failures — a file that is never sent cannot be exposed that way.
Changing the paper size of a PDF
A PDF page has no inherent “size” in the way a photograph has a pixel count. It has a rectangle measured in PostScript points — 72 to the inch — and a set of drawing instructions positioned inside it. Resizing therefore means two separate decisions: how big the new rectangle is, and what happens to the drawing instructions inside it.
This tool makes both explicit. You choose the sheet, and you choose whether the content is scaled to fit that sheet or left at its original size and centred. Everything stays vector, so nothing is rasterised and no quality is lost in the process.
Standard paper sizes in points
| Size | Millimetres | Inches | Points (portrait) |
|---|---|---|---|
| A3 | 297 × 420 | 11.7 × 16.5 | 841.89 × 1190.55 |
| A4 | 210 × 297 | 8.27 × 11.69 | 595.28 × 841.89 |
| A5 | 148 × 210 | 5.83 × 8.27 | 419.53 × 595.28 |
| US Letter | 216 × 279 | 8.5 × 11 | 612 × 792 |
| US Legal | 216 × 356 | 8.5 × 14 | 612 × 1008 |
| Tabloid | 279 × 432 | 11 × 17 | 792 × 1224 |
The awkward pair is A4 and Letter. Letter is 6 mm wider and 18 mm shorter, so neither contains the other. Scaling A4 content onto Letter gives about 94% and leaves white bands top and bottom; the reverse gives about 97% with bands at the sides. Any tool that claims a lossless A4 ↔ Letter conversion is either cropping or stretching.
Scale to fit versus keep original size
- Scale to fit multiplies the content by the smaller of the width and height ratios and centres it. Aspect ratio is preserved, so nothing is stretched, and nothing is ever cut off. This is the right choice almost always.
- Keep original size and centre leaves the content at 100% on the new sheet. Useful for shrinking the paper around a small drawing, or for placing an A5 page onto A4 for printing. If the content is bigger than the sheet, it will overhang and be clipped at print time.
The results table shows the exact scale factor applied to each of the first pages, so you can see at a glance whether a document was shrunk by 3% or by 30%.
What is lost, stated plainly
Because each page is drawn onto a brand-new sheet, the page object itself is rebuilt. Link annotations, bookmark destinations, form fields and comment markers belong to the old page object and are not carried across. Text, fonts, images and vector art all are.
If your document depends on its links or its form fields, and all you actually need is more white space, use Add Margins to PDF in its lossless mode — that only enlarges the page rectangle and leaves every object where it was.
Mixed-size documents
Reports assembled from several sources frequently mix page sizes without anyone noticing until the printer starts alternating trays. Set the orientation to match each page and every page lands on the same sheet size in the orientation that suits it, which gives a document a single tray and a consistent look while keeping landscape tables landscape.
Questions
Does resizing make the text blurry?
No. Text and vector graphics are re-drawn as vectors on the new sheet, so they stay sharp at any zoom or print resolution. Only embedded photographs keep their original pixel count, which means they end up at a slightly different effective DPI.
Why does A4 to Letter leave a strip of white space?
A4 is 210 × 297 mm and Letter is 216 × 279 mm — Letter is wider but shorter, so neither fits the other exactly. Scaling to fit keeps the whole page visible and centres it, which leaves a margin on the two long edges. That is preferable to cropping content off the bottom.
What happens to links, bookmarks and form fields?
They are not carried over. Re-laying a page onto a new sheet rebuilds the page object, and annotations belong to the old one. If you only need more white space, use Add Margins to PDF in its lossless mode instead — that keeps everything.
Can I keep the original size and just centre the content?
Yes. Set content scaling to “keep original size and centre”, and each page is placed on the new sheet at 100%. Anything larger than the sheet will overhang and be clipped when printed.
