How to rotate PDF pages

  1. Drop the PDF onto the box above and wait for the thumbnail grid to render.
  2. Leave everything unselected to rotate the whole document, or click the pages you want. The quick-select buttons cover all, odd, even and inverted selections, and the range box takes input like 2, 5-9, 20-.
  3. Use 90° left, 90° right or 180°. Each thumbnail also has its own two rotate buttons for one-off fixes.
  4. Check the previews, then press Apply and download.

The grid shows pages exactly as a reader displays them, so what you see after rotating is what you get in the saved file.

Rotation is metadata, not a re-render

Every PDF page carries a /Rotate entry — one of 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees — that tells the viewer how to turn the page before displaying it. This tool changes that number and nothing else. The file size stays the same, images are not re-compressed, and text remains selectable in the new orientation.

That also explains a common surprise: a scanner may store a landscape page as a portrait image plus a 90-degree flag. Some tools show the raw image, others honour the flag. Because this tool renders pages the way a viewer does, the previews match Acrobat, Preview, Chrome and every other standards-compliant reader.

Rotation reference

Problem Fix
Text reads bottom-to-top Rotate 90° right
Text reads top-to-bottom Rotate 90° left
Page is upside down Rotate 180°
Only the backs of a duplex scan are upside down Select Even, then rotate 180°

Why rotating in a viewer is not enough

Most PDF readers offer a rotate button in the toolbar, but it only changes the current view — close the file and the sideways page is back. Some readers can save the rotation, but only in their paid tier. Writing the rotation into the file, as this tool does, means the page prints the right way round and looks correct for whoever you send it to.

Questions

Does the rotation stick when I reopen the file?

Yes. The page rotation attribute is written into the saved PDF, so every reader and printer shows the page the way you left it.

Can I rotate only some pages?

Yes. Click any thumbnail to select it — or use the odd, even and range shortcuts — and the rotate buttons then apply only to your selection.

Why do some pages already look rotated?

Scanners often store a landscape page as a portrait image plus a 90 degree rotation flag. The grid shows the page exactly as a reader would display it, flag included.

Does rotating re-compress the page content?

No. Only a rotation value in the page dictionary changes, so file size, image quality and selectable text are all untouched.
