Split a PDF into separate files
Split a PDF every N pages, by custom ranges like 1-3, 7, 10-, or into one file per page. Multiple outputs arrive as a ZIP, all done locally.

How to split a PDF
- Drop the PDF onto the box above. The page count appears as soon as the file is read.
- Pick a split mode: custom ranges for hand-picked sections, every N pages for even chunks, or one file per page.
- Check the preview list — it shows exactly which pages land in each output file.
- Press Split. One output downloads as a PDF; several outputs are bundled into a ZIP, with individual download buttons in the results table as well.
Which mode should you use?
| Mode | Example input | Result for a 12-page file |
|---|---|---|
| Custom ranges | 1-3, 7, 10- | 3 files: pages 1-3, page 7, pages 10-12 |
| Every N pages | 4 | 3 files of 4 pages each |
| One file per page | — | 12 single-page PDFs in a ZIP |
Ranges may overlap or repeat pages if that is what you need — 1-5, 4-8
produces two files that share pages 4 and 5. An open range such as
10- always runs to the last page, so it keeps working when the
document grows.
Why the parts can add up to more than the whole
A PDF stores shared resources once: an embedded font, a logo used on every page, an ICC colour profile. When a document is split, each output file needs its own copy of everything its pages reference. Splitting a 2 MB, 40-page report into 40 single-page files can easily produce 8 MB in total, even though no page changed.
That is normal and not a sign of quality loss — the pages are copied byte-for-byte. If size matters, split into fewer, larger chunks, or compress the outputs afterwards.
Everything stays on your device
Splitting happens in JavaScript and WebAssembly inside this tab. There is no upload step, no temporary copy on a server and nothing to delete afterwards — which matters when the document is a signed contract, a payslip or a medical record. You can even disconnect from the network after the page has loaded and the tool keeps working.
Questions
How do I write a custom range?
Use comma-separated ranges: 1-3, 7, 10- makes three files — pages 1 to 3, page 7 on its own, and page 10 to the end. Spaces are ignored.
Why do I get a ZIP file?
Browsers can only reliably save one file per click, so when a split produces more than one PDF we bundle them into a single ZIP. A one-file split downloads as a plain PDF.
Are the split files smaller than the original?
Usually, but not proportionally. Shared resources such as embedded fonts are copied into every output file, so ten one-page PDFs can add up to more than the original.
Is the original file modified?
Never. The file you drop in is read into memory and left untouched on disk; every output is a brand-new document.
