Reverse the page order of a PDF
Flip a PDF back to front in one click, or reverse just a range while the rest stays put. Pages are copied whole, so nothing loses quality.
- Runs in your browser

Your PDF never leaves this tab — here is how to check
This page has no upload step and no server behind it. Two ways to confirm that yourself, neither of which requires trusting us:
- Turn off Wi-Fi or put the device in aeroplane mode after this page has loaded, then run the tool. It still works.
- Open your browser’s developer tools, switch to the Network tab, clear it, and process a file. No request appears.
The reason this matters: in 2025 the PDF service pdf.net was found exposing roughly 3.5 million user-uploaded documents, and formatter sites JSONFormatter.org and CodeBeautify leaked over 80,000 saved snippets containing live cloud credentials. Those are architectural failures — a file that is never sent cannot be exposed that way.
Three ways a PDF ends up backwards
- A face-down scan. Feed a stack face-down into a sheet feeder and the scanner works from the bottom of the pile up, producing the document in reverse.
- A face-up printer stack. Some printers deliver pages face-up, so the last page ends up on top. Scan that pile and you get a reversed PDF.
- A right-to-left original. An Arabic, Hebrew or Japanese document assembled with Western page ordering reads back to front for its intended audience.
All three are the same one-click fix, and none of them requires re-scanning.
The three reverse modes
| Mode | 1,2,3,4,5,6 becomes | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Every page | 6,5,4,3,2,1 | The whole document is back to front |
| Sheets, fronts and backs together | 5,6,3,4,1,2 | A duplex stack came out in the wrong sheet order |
| Only a range, e.g. 3-6 | 1,2,6,5,4,3 | An appendix or exhibit set was scanned backwards |
The sheet mode is the subtle one. A double-sided document has its pages paired: 1 and 2 are two faces of one sheet. Reversing every page would separate those pairs and put the backs before the fronts. Sheet mode reverses the order of the sheets while keeping each pair intact, which is what a mis-stacked duplex run actually needs.
The order preview
Under the options you get the resulting sequence as a strip of numbered cards — new position on top, original page number underneath. It is worth glancing at, particularly in range mode, where it is easy to enter a range that is off by one. Nothing is written until you press the button.
What reversing does not change
Each page is copied into the output document as a complete object: its content stream, its fonts, its images, its annotations and its text layer. Only the page tree — the list that says which page comes where — is different. Resolution, compression, colour and searchable text are all identical to the original, and the file size barely moves.
One caveat worth knowing: bookmarks and internal cross-reference links point at specific page objects. Reversing keeps them attached to the pages they referenced, so a bookmark that said “Chapter 3” still lands on chapter 3 — now near the front of the document.
Reversing versus reordering
If you need an arbitrary new order rather than a flip — moving page 12 to the front, dropping a section, interleaving two files — reversing is the wrong tool. Organize PDF gives you drag-and-drop page thumbnails, and Merge Alternate Pages handles the two-file duplex case directly.
Questions
When would I need to reverse a PDF?
Most often after scanning a stack face-down, after a printer that stacks output last-page-on-top, or when a scanner has produced a document that reads from the back. It is also the quickest fix for a right-to-left booklet that was assembled in the wrong direction.
What does the sheet mode do differently?
It reverses the order of the sheets while keeping each front and back together, turning 1,2,3,4,5,6 into 5,6,3,4,1,2. That is what you want for a double-sided document whose sheets came out in the wrong order but whose fronts and backs are correctly paired.
Can I reverse only part of the document?
Yes. Choose “only a page range” and enter something like 3-12. Those pages are reversed among themselves and every other page keeps its original position, which is useful when an appendix or a set of exhibits was scanned backwards.
Does reversing change the file size or quality?
Neither meaningfully. The pages are copied as complete objects into a new document in the new order, so the images, fonts and text layer are identical; only the page tree is different.
